Last Tuesday, 25th September, The National Fostering Agency (NFA) held an information event in the Soper Hall, Caterham, as part of its drive to recruit more foster carers in the Caterham area. NFA Team Manager Doreen Beeson and Carer Recruitment Officer Peter Norman were on hand to meet members of the public and answer their questions about becoming a foster carer. Doreen Beeson explained that the event was held in Caterham because it is a particularly good catchment area for foster carers. She said: "Caterham is close to four areas – Tandridge, Croydon, Sutton and Merton as well as being close to the border with Kent. We need more foster carers – we always need up to 15% vacancy rates so that we can find a good match when a child needs fostering." Doreen urged those considering fostering to get in touch. "Come and talk to us," said Doreen. "You can phone up and ask about anything. Please do not be put off if you think you may not be eligible to foster. We have foster carers that are married, single, employed, unemployed and retired. Foster carers must have a spare bedroom and be willing to attend training and there is 24 hour support available for the carers." For more information or to register interest in fostering go to www.nfa.co.uk or call Doreen Beeson or Peter Norman on 01895 200300. |
