On Tuesday 9th October Professor Michael Joy OBE, immediate past High Sheriff of Surrey and Ambassador for Surrey Crimestoppers, held a Reception at Surrey Police Headquarters at Mount Browne in Guildford. The Ambassador's Reception was organised by Surrey Crimestoppers Chairman Mr Tim Prideaux to raise awareness of Crimestoppers and included an address by Chief Constable, Lynne Owens and a tour of the facilities at the Police HQ. Professor Joy said: "It was lovely to have such an appreciative and enthusiastic audience attend the event. In common with many of those present only recently have I understood the contribution that Crimestoppers makes to assisting the police. We were well looked after by the Surrey Police HQ staff on the tours of the Operations Room. I feel confident that those who attended will want to amplify the important work that Crimestoppers does to keep the community safe." Chief Constable Lynne Owens said:"Crimestoppers is a valuable aid to Surrey Police providing information from members of the public anonymously. On average a warrant is executed every week arising from corroborated information initially received from Crimestoppers. In June as a result of a Crimestoppers campaign 146 pieces of anonymous information was supplied to Surrey Police, information that the public was happy to provide as long as they could keep their identity hidden." There were 50+ guests including the Vice Lord-Lieutenant Mr Gordon Lee-Steere DL; the High Sheriff of Surrey Mrs Karim Sehmer and Mayors from Woking, Waverley, Surrey Heath, Reigate & Banstead, Mole Valley, Epsom & Ewell, Elmbridge and Guildford. |
