Local magistrate Novello Noades pulled out all the stops to organise and host a spectacular fundraising event at Surrey National Golf Club on Monday 8th October despite being on crutches due to a recent hit and run bike accident*. The event in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association was a complete sell out with over 400 people turning up for the charity fashion show at SNGC. Gloria Hunniford generously offered her time and opened the show. Also in attendance was the Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Sakina Bradbury along with 'Dancing on Ice' star Laura Hamilton. The local harmony group Vocal Dimensions provided a beautiful musical interlude. Mary Coughlan, owner of 'Lucinda's' in Purley, provided the models and fashion for the show. A fantastic amount of money was raised for the charity with auction items and raffle prizes kindly donated by supporters. Items included a dinner with Karen Millen at Novello and Ron Noades' home in Purley. The event was declared a great success and was caught on camera by Croydon TV (London TV) for future broadcast. This evening (Friday 19th October) sees another fundraiser for MND taking place at the Surrey National. A number of well known people will be in attendance at the dinner dance organised by Novello, including former England footballer Des Walker and Team GB heptathlete and current Commonwealth gold medal holder Louise Hazel. *Novello fractured her pelvis after a car ploughed into her in a hit and run accident in Camberwell whilst training for another charity event - a bike ride from Yosemite to San Francisco in California on September 25th in aid of the Velindre Cancer Research Charity. Three weeks after the accident Novello flew to California and, astounding the doctors, managed to cycle 45miles on the first day and similar mileage on the remaining four days - mounting the bike by placing it flat on the floor and lifting it up to avoid having to lift her leg and pedalling with only one leg! |
