The community radio for Tandridge, Ridge Radio, held a launch party to celebrate the official opening of its new studio in Croydon Road, Caterham Valley this week. Volunteers, friends and supporters of Ridge Radio packed the new studio along with beavers and cubs from the 1st Woldingham Scout Group, their leaders and parents. Sir Richard Stilgoe who founded The Orpheus Centre performing arts college in Godstone was one of the guests of honour, as well as local businessman and owner of West Ham United, David Gold. Both Sir Richard and David Gold gave speeches congratulating Ridge Radio on its new home and later on David Gold was interviewed live on air by Charlie, a cub from 1st Woldingham Scout Group. When Charlie asked Mr Gold what he thought of the new venue for Ridge Radio, he said: "I think that Ridge Radio is a great community asset and it is great to see it in its new home. It has something for everyone, young and old. This new venue is perfectly situated, on the main road where everyone can see it, and I wish you all very good luck." Afterwards Mark Jones, founder of Ridge Radio, said: "I think the launch party was fantastic. Lots of local businesses showed up and networked with each other – it injects more energy into the project when so much support is shown to us by local people." |
