Members of the Services from Warlingham who died defending this country have ben honoured at the Warlingham Remembrance Day ceremony every year since 1922. Arrangements were traditionally made by Warlingham's British Legion but a few years ago declining membership of the Legion threatened the continuation of the event. Isobel Noble, secretary of the local Legion, approached the Parish Concil who readily agreed to support the day, setting up an official Working Group with representatives from the Legion, the Scouts, Girlguiding and the Parish Council itself. The group successfully organised the 2007 event and then went on to refine the arrangements in subsequent years. Isobel said: "A large number of people come each year and we beleive this demonstrates how much the sacrifice of our servicemen and servicewomen is valued, so we hope that this event will continue to provide an opportunity for Warlingham residents to demonstrate their gratitude for what was done on their behalf." At 10am on Sunday November 11th there will be a parade from Mint Walk ending on The Green at 10.45am where there will be a service including a reading of the names of the fallen. Councillor Glynis Whittle and Stuart Mitchenall will be in attendance. For details of other Remembrance Day services in Tandridge visit http://bit.ly/TgEmCI |
