Instead of hiding behind doors at Halloween, avoiding the celebration of all things spooky, scary and dark, Oakhall Church likes to celebrate the Light by holding a Light party! This is the fifth year the church has held a Light party for 1-11 year olds on 31st October. It was an alternative, fun and non-scary party for children that included party games, crafts, face painting, apple bobbing, catching doughnuts on string, dancing and food. The party, held at de Stafford School in Caterham, was open to anyone in the community and there was no charge for the event. Elise Hedderly of Oakhall Church said: "At the party we had puppets which were both entertaining and helped to tie in the theme of light with Jesus, who described himself as the Light of the world. We had a fantastic time with over 100 children accompanied by parents and carers. Each child left with a party bag, balloon and hopefully some happy memories!" On Sunday 4th November, also at de Stafford School, Oakhall Church are having an All-age Light Service - an informal family-friendly service for anyone who would like to attend from 11am-12 noon. |
