Local resident, David Gold, the new co-owner of West Ham football club and chairman of Ann Summers, is opening his gardens to the public for the last two Sundays in March to raise money for charity. On Sunday, 21st March the Open Day will be in aid of St. Catherine's Hospice, and on Sunday 28th March the money raised will go to The National Garden Scheme.
The 55 acres of gardens, grounds and ancient woodlands attracts a great assortment of wildlife, and looks spectacular at this time of year with thousands of daffodils in bloom. David has constructed his own 19 hole golf course in the grounds and the 17th fairway also doubles up as a runway for his Cessna plane. The 10th fairway accommodates one of David's helicopters while the other one sits on the front lawn. Also on view will be a limited edition 'Blue Train' Bentley, Silver Phantom Rolls Royce and the oldest surviving F.A. Cup.
The gardens at 'The Chalet' in Tupwood Lane, Caterham Valley will be open from 11am to 4.30pm, entry costs £3.00. Parking is available and there is some disabled access. Teas, coffee and cakes are being served.
