On Sunday 18th November Caterham School U14 netball team competed in the first round of the National Schools Tournament and won five of their six matches to progress to the regional rounds. The first match was against strong favourites, Guildford High, who won a very competitive match 11-8. Despite losing, Caterham School team had competed very well and they maintained this high standard for their subsequent matches defeating Lingfield Notre Dame 11-3, Tormead 12-5, Tiffin 9-3 and Sir William Perkins 14-3. These successes took Caterham through to a play-off against St Catherine's who had won the other section. Both teams played excellent netball with Caterham emerging victorious at 11-7. Caterham therefore progress to the Regional rounds. Head of Netball, Miss Jaclyn Leach said: 'The team showed great character to come back from their initial defeat. They were able to focus and remained calm under significant pressure from some very strong teams. They had to play to a really high standard, particularly in their match against St Catherine's and I think that they were outstanding. Their coach, Jen Farmer, has developed them into an excellent squad." |
