On Saturday 10th November, 11 intrepid swimmers, with five enthusiastic supporters keeping count, swam 200 lengths of the de Stafford Sports Centre pool in Caterham-on-the-Hill, equalling '5km for Kimilili'. The swim was a fundraiser for the charity CHECK (Community Health & Education for the Children of Kimilili), featured in last month's edition of The Caterham and District Indendent. So far the swim has raised £873.70 (incl gift-aid), for the charity. CHECK supporter and organiser of the sponsored swim, Jessica Turk said: "We would sincerely like to thank all the people that have donated to this very worthy cause. All monies raised will be taken with us when we visit next July to help in various projects in the four schools and the community hospital that CHECK support in the small town of Kimilili, Western Provence, Kenya." |
