This week saw three special events taking place in Tandridge to promote volunteering and encourage people to volunteer their services. The events which took place at the Hurst Green Community Centre on Tuesday 4th December, the Soper Hall in Caterham on Wednesday 5th December and the Lingfield and Dormansland Community Centre on Thursday 6th December, were organised by Tandridge District Council's Chairman, Councillor Sakina Bradbury, supported by Tandridge Voluntary Service Council (TVSC). Sakina has made it her aim whilst in her year of office to encourage more people to volunteer in their community. Sakina said: "For many people finding the time to volunteer or being prepared to commit to a long term project is difficult, but whatever time, skills and experience you have, there is always something you can do to make a difference. It's a great way to meet new people, as well as learn new skills." General Manager of Tandridge Voluntary Service Council, Sue Cox added: "It doesn't matter whether you can just spare the odd day, a few hours or make a regular commitment, it all helps." Some of the organisations that attended the events looking to recruit volunteers were East Surrey Museum, Whyteleafe Helping Hands, Community First Responders, The Samaritans, Cruse Bereavement Care, the Royal Air Force, East Surrey Carers Support Association and East Surrey Community Mediation. Most offer free support, help and companionship when people need it most.
