Local resident, David Gold, helped to raise funds for St. Catherine's Hospice last Sunday, by opening his garden and grounds to the public. Nearly £1,500 was raised thanks to the steady stream of visitors who came to enjoy the beauty of the garden now that the spring flowers are starting to come into bloom. Following a very rainy Saturday, the weather was kind to the visitors on Sunday, who were able to sit outside in the sun and enjoy refreshments including delicious home-made cakes served by David's partner, Lesley and her team of helpers. On Sunday David said: "When I was on my way to West Ham yesterday it was pouring with rain and I was really worried that the weather wouldn't clear up in time for our Open Day. It's beautiful today and I'm very pleased for the visitors."
During the day David was selling and signing copies of his autobiography, 'Pure Gold', a very personal account of his journey from poverty growing up in the East End of London to becoming a self-made multi-millionaire.
David and Lesley are opening their garden again this Sunday, 28th March to raise money for the National Gardens Scheme. The garden will be open from 11.00am -- 4.30pm and entry costs £3. Parking is available with some disabled access.
