On Thursday 6th December the Whitgift Centre, Croydon resonated with the sound of carols when shoppers were given a festive treat. Schools from all around the borough sang on the stage, under the Christmas tree in Whitgift Square to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and to spread a little Christmas cheer. They performed Christmas songs and played musical instruments while volunteers collected money for Marie Curie from shoppers. The schools taking part were Cumnor House School, Royal Russell School, Elmhurst School, Oakhyrst Grange School and Warlingham Park School. Kadell Daniel and Jerome Williams from Crystal Palace FC made an appearance in the afternoon and delighted both the schools and shoppers by signing autographs and joining in with the carol singing. A grand total of £801.22 was collected during the day. Richard Sizer, Director of Music at Cumnor House School said: "All the children were delighted to come along again this year. This is the ninth year we have supported Marie Curie Cancer Care and we are happy to come along and sing, knowing we are raising money for such a wonderful cause. Christmas would not be the same without us doing our bit to support the wonderful work the amazing nurses do." The money raised will help Marie Curie Cancer Care provide nursing care and support to terminally ill people in your neighbourhood over the coming year. Each £20 provides an hour of Marie Curie Nursing Care, and the service is totally free to patients and families. |
