It's time to register for the Rotary Bunny Fun Run 2013!
Published: Friday, 28 December 2012 06:59

Have some exercise, raise some money for charity and reward yourself with an Easter egg on Sunday 24th March in Queen's Park, Caterham. The Rotary Club of Caterham is holding the sixth Easter Bunny Fun Run with a 1k Fun Run starting at 10am and a 5k Race starting at 10.30am. Runners/ walkers may choose to raise money for their own charity or for the Lily Foundation.

Every finisher will be given an Easter egg with the prize winning best dressed bunnies and fastest runners getting larger eggs.

Lily Anna Merritt was a beautiful little girl and despite being given days to live, she graced this world with eight months of life. The Lily Foundation was built on Lily's strength and inspired by her fighting spirit. It was founded to give hope, answers and support to the many other children and families that face the challenges of Mitochondrial Disease for which there is no treatment or cure.

One of the organisers of the Bunny Fun Run, Richard York, said: "The Lily Foundation is a fantastic charity. However runners can also get sponsorship for whatever charity they choose. We encourage charities to put together their own teams to take part in the race and raise funds."

Last year both the 1st Caterham Scouts and the Sutton & Croydon MS Therapy Centre put in teams and raised about £2,000 each, having great fun doing it.

Richard said: "We saw over 400 participants enjoy excellent weather and a party atmosphere in Queen's Park last year. Come and join us in 2013 and help increase the £15,000 donated to charity so far."

The theme is Easter Bunnies and many competitors in the 1k and some in the 5k dress up in a wide variety of Bunny outfits. The 1k run is mostly in the park and along Wood Lane with no roads to cross and marshals at each turn. The 5k race is over an undulating course of grass, pathway and track through Chaldon and Caterham-on-the-Hill and while the last competitors came in hand in hand munching biscuits after well over an hour the course record is 17 minutes 19 seconds. Can you beat it?

The Chair of Tandridge District Council, Sakina Bradbury, will be attending to start the runs and present the prizes.

A registration form and fee is required for each runner to reserve a place at the start of the race and a finisher's egg.

The registration fee (non refundable) is £5 for the 5k race and £2.50 for the 1k run. Registration taken out on the day is double the pre registration cost. Enter online or by using the form below. You can request extra forms via www.rotaryruns.
