Local residents are being invited to consider four different options for the regeneration of the old Rose & Young showroom in Croydon Road, Caterham Valley. At an exhibition being held at the Soper Hall in Harestone Valley Road by Urban Designers, Kember Loudon Williams LLP (KLW), the four potential schemes will be on display showing a) Commercial re-use of the site; b) Mix of commercial, retail and residential; c) Large scale retail only and d) Small scale retail with residential. After reviewing all the comments received during the exhibition and making revisions to their proposals, if necessary, KLW hope to submit a full planning application this spring. Head of Planning at Tandridge District Council, Piers Mason, is encouraged by the news of the exhibition. He said: "I think this means we are getting somewhere at last. We have been putting pressure on the owner of the site with the Section 215 Order that requires him to clean up the site or demolish it by the end of February. I think this is what has brought him to the table with proper architects and planning consultants effectively trying to deliver a viable scheme. "The owner of the site knows that the council's interest in getting the site redeveloped is not going to go away and we are pressing for something to happen. The Rose & Young site is so high on my list of corporate objectives - we will be keeping a very close eye on it." In the meantime, local resident, John Harvey, has launched an online petition to urge Tandridge District Council to demolish the Rose & Young building if the owner fails to meet the deadline to clean up the site or demolish the building to meet the requirements of the Section 215 Order. To sign the online petition go to http://petitions.tandridge. gov.uk/DemolishRY/ before 31st January 2013. The exhibition at the Soper Hall will be open on Monday 14th January between 1pm-5pm and Tuesday 15th January between 4pm and 7pm. The event will be attended by professionals who have been working on the project who will be able to answer any questions. |
