Tandridge District Council and Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a series of thefts from Whyteleafe play area, Hillbury Road, Warlingham, between 17th December and 29th December 2012. Large sections of decking and parts of play equipment have been stolen, making areas of the playground unsafe to use. These parts and the decking will be replaced as soon as possible and extra measures, including CCTV, are being put in place to protect the site from further damage. If anyone has any information about the thefts they should report it to Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference TD/13/37, or Tandridge District Council on 01883 722000. Chairman of the Community Services, Councillor Tony Elias, said: "The thefts have meant that parts of the play area cannot be used, which is really disappointing for children and their parents. If anyone has any information please report it to Surrey Police or the Council as soon as possible." PC Leessa Crouch, the Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Whyteleafe and Portley, said: "It's very sad that these mindless thefts and damage to the play area have occurred as it has a direct impact on families in the area. We are working closely with the district council to gather information and track down those responsible. I would like to hear from anyone who saw the thefts taking place or who has any information." The play area was rebuilt in 2011 Tandridge District Council at a cost of £100,000. |
