On Tuesday 16th January, Warlingham Park School's Platinum Award Winning Sing-Up Choir joined forces with the Young Voices Choir, the largest children's choir organiser in the world and a number of other primary school choirs from the country to sing at the O2 Arena. Young Voices strives to introduce children to a wide variety of music opportunities and this performance was no exception. The programme was a real mixture of contemporary, traditional and pop music. There was a lively version of 'Musical Memories' from the 'Jazzy Jinks' complete with actions, a lyrical performance of Brother James' Air and Hans Christian Andersen and a toe-tapping, finger-clicking Pop Medley. The choirs were privileged to sing Pride (in the name of Love) and Canvas with this year's special guest artist, soul-jazz legend Randolph Matthews. The highlight of the evening though had to be accompanying Connie Talbot from Britain's Got Talent in a rousing rendition of 'Sing' arranged by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow. The young singer's voice filled the vacuous space of the O2 with haunting clarity. This spectacle was further enhanced with a wonderful display of singing and dancing from The African Children's Choir. Warlingham Park School believe that music and singing enhances school life and learning and participating in Young Voices every year is one of the ways it enables its pupils to really enjoy, understand and develop with music. |
