On Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th January, the Soper Hall in Harestone Valley Road, Caterham, was the venue for an exhibition showcasing four possible schemes for the derelict Rose & Young site in Croydon Road. At the exhibition local residents had the opportunity to make their views known to representatives of urban designers Kember Lowdon Williams (KLW) and architects, OSP before the submission of a planning application by the owner of the site this spring. Following the exhibition, Julian Black of Kember Lowdon Williams said: "We are very pleased that over 200 people attended the exhibition, which was about getting a handle on what local people want. We now need to produce a scheme that works commercially. It is a superb site for both retail and residential elements." Local businessman, Andrew Browne said: "I am sceptical that there is any real intention by the owner to develop the site soon. I think this is just a tactic to try and stop any attempt by Tandridge District Council to use a Compulsory Purchase Order to redevelop the site." |
