On Friday 15th February two teams from St John's CofE Primary School in Caterham participated in the area heats of the National Inter-school Quiz Championship. Team B won the heat with an impressive 87% of questions correct and Team A also achieved a high score, coming fourth out of the eleven teams. The competition involved more than 1,200 UK primary schools, competing in a high-tech quiz with teams of four comprising one pupil from each of years 3 to 6 (age 7 to 11). The St John's team was made up of Joshua Murphy, Samuel Heath, Lauren Ives and Sebastian Bednar, who will take part in the semi-finals next term. They were selected from many aspiring St John's competitors by winning a classroom–based quiz for their respective year group. The actual contest, which was hosted at Wray Common School, was presented by a professional Quizmaster with players using a personal wireless handset to answer the questions. Headteacher, Liz Wombwell, said: "The St John's Team did exceptionally well to win their heat by a wide margin, displaying their broad general knowledge and composure under pressure. We are very proud of their success and the whole school is looking forward to the semi-finals next term". For more information about the Championship, please visit www.quizclub.info |
