Warlingham Park School hosted its 17th annual inter-school cross-country competition on Monday 25th February. This annual event in the school's diary brings together the hottest and most promising running talent from fifteen state and independent sector primary schools in Croydon and Tandridge. The conditions were cold but dry and almost perfect for cross-country running even though there was still some tricky terrain for the competitors to cross in the woods. The afternoon kicked off with the girls' individual and team race at 2.15pm. Isabella Sims from Cumnor House once again put in a convincing performance to take the girls' individual title. Cumnor House were also victorious in the girls' team race with Caterham School girls coming a close second, St David's Purley in third and Warlingham Park School A Team and Old Palace A Team joint fourth place. The boys' race at 2.30pm was equally exciting as they set quite a pace at the start of the race. Harley Norman from Oakhyrst Grange put in another winning performance. In the team race Caterham School were gallant winners with St David's Purley in second place, Oakhyrst Grange in third and Oakwood School in fourth place. Warlingham Park School would like to extend its thanks to all schools that took part in this year's race and looks forward to welcoming them back again next year. Mike Donald, Head Teacher of Warlingham Park School commented: "Our school's extensive sports fields and countryside location make it an ideal venue for this competition and I'm thrilled to be able to host an event that is yet again proving to be so popular." |
