Caterham resident, Andy Parr, was elected as the new Chairman of the Caterham Community Partnership ('CCP') at the group's AGM on Tuesday 19th February. Andy is taking over from Chris Windridge, who has chaired CCP (previously 'A Better Caterham') for the past seven years. At the meeting Chris said that although he had enjoyed being Chairman he felt it was time to hand over to someone new but he would still remain very much involved in local projects. During his time as Chairman Chris has overseen the formation of different working groups within CCP such as the Shabby to Smart group that has helped to transform the appearance of Caterham town centre and the Soper Hall group that campaigned for the building to be transferred to community ownership. The idea of the Caterham Festival started with CCP, to help promote Caterham and create awareness of its many organisations through a programme of events each summer. Chris remains fully committed to helping Caterham become a 'fast fibre hub' with superfast broadband bringing faster internet connection to the town this summer. In his first speech as Chairman of CCP Andy Parr said: "Thank you Chris for doing a fabulous job for seven years. Although I am already quite busy as Chairman of the Caterham Festival and helping with Cubs on Monday nights, I want to make sure we keep the good work of CCP going, such as the Shop Smart loyalty scheme and the ongoing success of the Soper Hall. At the moment one of the most important things we need to focus on is the CR3 Forum to give greater validity to the Neighbourhood Plan to enable us to have a greater say over local policies like planning, for example."
