A second planning application has been made by Lidl to Croydon Planning Department to build a 1,000 sq ft store on the site of the former Good Companions pub at Hamsey Green. Local residents are concerned that whilst changes have been made to the building design, a number of concerns have not been addressed, such as the increased traffic volume a supermarket would bring and the road safety issues relating to the thousands of children that attend Hamsey Green Primary and Warlingham High Schools. Residents are also concerned about the impact a new supermarket would have on the local stores and post office. Warlingham resident, Paul Redington who lives in Crewes Lane said: "We simply do not need another supermarket, nor the traffic congestion it will bring. Croydon Council needs to listen to its taxpayers, and to neighbouring Surrey residents who will be adversely affected by this unnecessary development". Campaigners are urging local residents to express their views to Croydon Council before the deadline of Tuesday 30th April. The plans and other associated documents can be viewed at the Planning portal of the Croydon Council website where comments can be left at http://publicaccess.croydon.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=neighbourComments&keyVal=_CROYD_DCAPR_135564 Alternatively comments can be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots.
