Nearly 400 people took part in the sixth annual Caterham Rotary Bunny Fun Run last Sunday, 28th April, which had been postponed from Easter due to the dangerous icy conditions. 179 runners participated in the 1k Fun Run and another 206 runners took part in the 5K race, many of the runners dressing up for the occasion in bunny-themed costumes! The organisers were delighted with the turn-out, especially as the date had to be rearranged, Members of Caterham Rotary Club marshalled the race and were on hand at the finish line to hand all the runners an Easter egg. Ridge Radio provided the PA system and music and the Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Sakina Bradbury, started both races assisted by Caterham Town Crier, Sonia Hunt. The 1st Caterham Scout Group ensured there was a constant supply of sizzling sausages and burgers and there were stalls raising money for the Harestone Lops, Community Responders and St. Catherine's Hospice. Organiser of the event, Richard York, took part in the 5K race himself this year. He said: "It was really interesting to experience the course as a runner this year. Seeing the course from a runner's perspective helped me to understand which were the tricky bits and whether or not the marshalls were in the correct places. I really enjoyed it. The event is expected to have raised thousands of pounds for St. Catherine's Hospice and other Rotary Charities. The final amount will be announced in the June edition of The Caterham and District Independent alongside more photos of Sunday's event. To view the results go to www.rotaryruns.co.uk |
