Pointers Gymnastics and Trampoline Club saw their 5th competition go off with a resounding bang! With competitor entries tripled from last year, Pointers had to re-arrange the entire structure of their competition which proved very successful and received glowing praise. Held at Warlingham School, the Tumbling on Sunday 24th March, had over 100 entrants from Pointers and her associated sister clubs, and on Saturday 20th April, over 30 Acrobatic routines were performed. The atmosphere was electric, the competition fierce, and the calibre of entrants high. Head Judge and Pointers manager, Sefra Crilly, said: "I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of entrants we received this year, and I am so grateful to the coaches and judges for their hard work ensuring the smooth running of the event. It was fantastic to see a lot of new faces and everyone enjoying the day. I was very impressed with the high standard of the gymnasts, and it was obvious a lot of hard work had been put in by both the gymnasts and coaches alike. It was wonderful to see the improvement of those who have competed in past competitions, and the support given by the parents and guests in attendance". Tumbling is a combination of gymnastics skills performed at speed along a straight set of mats incorporating a sprung strip. Tumbles start from Grade 1 consisting of forward roll, backward rolls and cartwheels, up to Grade 7 which involves a high level of skill with gymnasts performing punch front somersaults and back somersaults at amazing speeds. Acrobatic Gymnastics is a partner sport combining strength, flexibility and technical precision. With the trust and camaraderie of a dedicated partnership, either pair or trios, it is performed with the grace and musicality of dance. Acrobatic routines range from Novice pairs involving various skills of strength and balance, to Grade 1 Acrobatics which combines these skills with moves such as somersaults from shoulders, handstands on knees, arabesques and supported handspring. Congratulations go to all the competitors, but in particular to the medal winners from both sections of the competition. |
