On Wednesday 8th May Caterham Rotary Club held their Charity Golf Day at Bletchingley Golf Course. The weather forecast was dire, and rain was falling heavily as players arrived but the rain abated and it was fortunate that the competition was completed in dry but overcast conditions. Although the number of competitors was slightly down on previous years it did not reduce the overall enjoyment of the day. Caterham Rotarian David Monk said: "We were extremely grateful to everyone who attended, especially those many members of Bletchingley Golf Club who again supported our annual event so willingly, not forgetting the many sponsors who gave so generously. Without them all it would not have been possible to raise more than £2,100 for The Wheelchair Foundation UK." This sum, together with monies raised from recent fund raising activities, has allowed the Club to donate nearly £10,000 to The Wheelchair Foundation UK that in turn will allow the purchase of over 100 wheelchairs to be delivered to the Kimililli area in Western Kenya. Rotarian Geraint Jenkins will be able to oversee the wheelchair delivery when he and a group from Caterham visit Kimilili in July. The Wheelchair Foundation UK is a not for profit organisation leading an international effort to create awareness of the needs and abilities of people with physical disabilities, to promote joy of giving, great global friendship and to deliver a wheelchair to every child, teen and adult in the world who needs one, but cannot afford one.
