A great time was had by all at the Caterham Festival Street Party last Sunday, 2nd June, which had a new twist to it this year, quite literally with the party continuing round the corner into Chaldon Road from the High Street and Townend. Businesses in Chaldon Road were delighted to have the benefit of all the excitement going on outside their doors this year, including a stage for live bands outside HSL furniture store. The day started with the children's and adults' Boat Races, organised by Caterham Round Table who sponsored the Street Party this year. Teams of two careered along the High Street in their colourful boats, most of them representing local businesses including JJ Browne Jewellers, Computer Solutions and Bib and Tucker Dry Cleaners. 18 teams took part this year, raising approximately £500 for Caterham Round Table. Amongst the other attractions at the party were a host of stalls and sideshows, live bands, a Pimms tent run by Caterham Rotary Club, BMX demonstrations, circus tricks and face painting. In addition to all the fun taking place in the street, the Community Centre was packed with people either watching or taking part in a swing jive session run by No Name Jive. Caterham Festival Chairman, Andy Parr, said: "It was a wonderful day with thousands of people. I would like to thank Caterham Round Table for their sponsorship of the Street Party. Without them it would not have happened. A lot of people put in a lot of time and effort to make is a success and I would like to thank the local community for coming along and supporting the event." The Festival fun continues this weekend with the Caterham Carnival tomorrow, Saturday 8th June and the Food Festival on Sunday, along with the Waller Pain cycle race.
