The P&G Surrey Youth Games took place in Guildford last weekend, the 15th and 16th June, and started well for Team Tandridge, winning two gold medals in the boxing and badminton. Despite the weather, and sterling efforts in football, squash and tennis, the spirits of Team Tandridge were not dampened as they battled to success in hockey and netball. Captain Patch, Tandridge Trust's legendary mascot, came out to spur the boccia boys on to another gold. Tandridge later rounded off a thrilling first day with a gold in the contact boxing. Day two began with a great effort in the rugby, the first time Tandridge Trust had entered a team in this event. Team Tandridge went on to win bronze in the Hi 5 netball and put in a fabulous effort in the squash and the well attended swimming event. Team Tandridge finished on a high with a well earned silver medal in the boys table tennis. All in all, a very successful games for Tandridge which saw a second place finish in the medal table with four Gold Medals: Badminton Juniors, Boxing Non Contact, Boxing Contact and Boccia Seniors; Three Silver Medals: Hockey Boys, Netball Seniors and Table Tennis Boys and one Bronze: Netball Hi 5's. Tandridge Trust would like to extend a big 'well done' to all of the coaches and participants as well as thanking the sponsors and organisers and other teams for providing some stiff competition. Over 250 children benefitted from this year's free coaching sessions and great levels of sports development in the district. Andy Setters, Sports Officer for Tandridge Trust said: "We had a fantastic build up to a great weekend! A lot of young people have got involved in new sports and brought home some silverware to top off this spectacular event. We will be working behind the scenes all year to help build on the successes of this year's competition. Our achievements will be highlighted at the Tandridge Sports Awards in October." |
