The Caterham Community Choir hosted a 'Sharing Event' at de Stafford School, Burntwood Lane last Tuesday evening, 2nd July, to showcase the progress the choir has made since it started ten weeks ago. Visitors had the opportunity to hear the choir sing songs, songlets and chants from different world traditions as well as more well known songs such as 'Moon River'. Visitors could then join in with two and four part harmonies, creating a wonderful sound for a first attempt! The evening ended with everyone present singing Bill Withers' 'Lean on Me' together. Lisa Phillips from Tandridge Trust, one of the local organisations that funded the launch of the choir, said: "It is really lovely to hear how much you have all grown in confidence since starting ten weeks ago. It is a lovely sound." The choir, led by singing practitioner, Catherine Pestano, meet every Tuesday, term-time only from 7-9pm at de Stafford School. It is open to all residents of Caterham and the surrounding areas, men and women aged ten years and over, with a love and will to sing. No experience is necessary and there is no need to read music. The cost is £4 per session, £2 concessions (10-18 years). For more information call 01883 724599. |
