Four head teachers from Kimilili, a small village in Kenya, will be arriving at Gatwick airport on Thursday 4th July for a two week stay in Caterham. The head teachers are coming to Caterham to meet the members and supporters of local charity C.H.E.C.K (Community, Health and Education for the Children of Kimilili).
C.H.E.C.K was started in May 2010 by ex-de Stafford School Geography teacher, Geraint Jenkins MBE, who has been visiting Kimilili with groups of supporters since 1974. C.H.E.C.K’s aim is to improve the skills and capabilities of the disadvantaged children of Kimilili so that they can live a better life.
90% of the funds C.H.E.C.K raises go directly to supporting the small community. The other 10% go towards funding the trips and events that the charity hosts. So far, the people of Caterham have given over £150,000 of their money towards C.H.E.C.K. The head teachers visit will give them the opportunity to thank the people of Caterham for all their support over the years.
The members of C.H.E.C.K have some exciting activities lined up for the head teachers during their visit. Apart from visiting local churches, fetes and schools, the head teachers will also be taking trips to London to see sights such as Southwark Cathedral, The Houses of Parliament an art gallery and museum.
If anyone would like to meet the head teachers they will be attending the Old Coulsdon Rotary Fete at 1.15pm on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday afternoon they will be visiting the Whyteleafe Fete. |
