East Surrey Community Mediation is a small, community charity based in East Surrey that provides free of charge mediation services for all members of the community, mainly neighbours in dispute. Mediation is an informal yet structured process that helps neighbours who are in dispute to resolve issues. The charity says that neighbours in dispute often find that communication and trust has broken down. Mediation provides an impartial third party to help them re-build this relationship in a safe and effective way, and enables the all parties to come up with practical solutions which benefit everybody. Statistics show that eight out of ten people who take part in mediation resolve their problems. The charity currently offers their services to neighbours and communities as well as parents, teenagers and grandparents. The service is delivered by trained volunteers and funded by individual contributions as well as grants by parties such as Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Surrey Police.
