The Old Coulsdon Camera Club are now on summer recess until Tuesday 17th September, but are still hosting informal meetings on Tuesday evenings for anyone to attend. The evenings are a chance for members and guests to present their recent work, as well as chat to other photographers over a drink. The meetings are held in Cameron Hall, Canons Hill, Old Coulsdon from 7.45pm. The picture displayed is Old Coulsdon Camera Club member Tim Lawson's latest work, entitled 'Crowded Skies In The City'. Tim explained that the photograph uses a powerful processing technique called High Dynamic Range, or HDR, a setting that some cameras may come equipped with. Tim took the shot with the camera pointing straight up to the sky supported by a tripod. He took several shots which were taken each at a sequentially different shutter speed. Tim then fused the photographs together using photo editing software to bring out the best detail in all areas. Tim said: "This technique produces a much more complete range of tonal depth than can usually be obtained from a single shot and is much closer to what the eye sees as opposed to the limited range of tones that a camera usually records in one shot. "I used a fisheye lens which has an extremely wide angle of view of 180 degrees and deliberately produces a circular distortion. The fisheye lens appears to magnify the nearest parts of the view and to diminish the further parts so that they appear closer together."
