The Mayor of Croydon, Cllr. Yvette Hopley, was the guest of honour alongside friends, staff and pupils at Warlingham Park School's Speech day on Wednesday 10th July. The afternoon began with a concert displaying the very best of the school's musical talent. A range of instrumentalists performed from violin to piano, flute and fife to singing and drumming ensembles. Solo artists Shivani Vignes and Harmony Dawson from Class 7 brought the audience close to tears with their incredibly mature and moving performances. The school choirs from Infant and Junior entertained with a variety of numbers from classical to musicals and the concert culminated with the whole school joining in the Warlingham Park School song. Poetry Competition winners from Class 1 to Class 7 recited their poems with great conviction and gusto. It left Head Teacher, Mr Mike Donald to round up the school's highlights for the year. Then Cllr Hopley who is also Trustee of Warlingham Park School addressed the audience before distributing this year's awards. Children at WPS are commended on academic results and also on achievements in Technology, Sport, Art and Music. House Awards are given equal priority. The coveted Moore Cup for exemplary behaviour was awarded to Lily-Rose Offer from Pre-School and Academic and Sports scholarships were awarded to Annabel Plummer, Laura Cope and Amy James in Class 7. Once again, the school was extremely grateful to Caterham Rotary for its generous gift of dictionaries for all the Class 7 Leavers. Head Teacher, Mike Donald said: "The exceptional quality of this year's concert reflects the diversity of musical and creative talent within the school. Academic learning goes hand-in-hand with excellence in a broad range of extra-curricular activities."
