Volunteer PR officer for Marie Curie, Karen Green, who is based at the charity's Caterham office, has been nominated for a Croydon Champion's award. Karen has volunteered for Marie Curie for 11 years, inspired by the care her mother received when she died of ovarian cancer in 1994. The shop manager at the Caterham Marie Curie shop, Pauline Percival, nominated Karen for the award for her tireless work promoting the charity. Over the years Karen has forged close links wth Crystal Palace FC where she holds a season ticket. The players regularly help Karen to promote the charity with photocalls and goalkeeper, Julian Speroni and other Palace players have made several visits to the Marie Curie shop in Church Walk. On hearing that she had been nominated, Karen said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been nominated by Pauline for the work that I do for Marie Curie Cancer Care. I was so grateful to the Marie Curie Nurses for the amazing care that my Mum, Elsie received and wanted to do something in a small way for all the help and support that I received at a very difficult time. A huge thank you to everyone who supports the role that I do and makes my role so much easier." |
