Man arrested following Crimewatch appeal |

A man has been arrested following a Crimewatch appeal to trace an armed robber who targeted a travel agent in Caterham earlier this month. Officers were called to the Thomas Cook store on Croydon Road at around 2.40pm on Monday, 8th July following a report of an armed robbery at the location. An image of man officers wanted to trace in connection with the incident was soon circulated to the media and CCTV footage of the offence was featured on BBC Crimewatch last week (Thursday, 25th July). Investigating officer Detective Constable Kerry Akehurst, said: "Following the Crimewatch appeal last week we received information which led to the arrest of the man and I would like to thank those who called in for assisting with the investigation." A reward of up to £1,000 could be claimed from the independent charity Crimestoppers for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the offence. The 56-year-old man from Warlingham was arrested on Saturday, 27th July on suspicion of armed robbery and has been released on police bail until Tuesday 10th September while the investigation continues. Anyone who has information on this offence is urged to contact Surrey police on 101 quoting reference TD/13/3211. Alternatively you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with any information about the robbery and you may be eligible to claim a reward. To be eligible, information must be provided to Crimestoppers - information passed to police will not qualify. |
