Officers from East Surrey CID are appealing for information following three incidents where items were thrown from a bridge over the M25.
The first incident occurred around 8.25pm on Monday, 29 July on the Brook Road bridge in Merstham. A lorry suffered minor damage to a front number plate as a result.
Two further incidents occurred at around 9pm on Thursday, 1 August.
Around £2,000 worth of damage was caused to a windscreen of a lorry and around £1,000 worth of damage was caused to an emergency exit door of a coach.
Detective Sergeant Oana King, said: "I would appeal to anyone who knows the identity of those in the CCTV images to contact us as a matter of urgency as we believe they hold vital information on these offences which would assist with the investigation and hopefully prevent further occurrences.
"Incidents of this nature are extremely serious as it is putting the lives of many road users at risk and we will do all we can to find those responsible.
"Those responsible may not realise the consequences their actions may have and I would stress to them or anyone else thinking of taking part in such a dangerous activity that we will do all we can to pursue offenders and bring them to justice.
"The fact that a coach was targeted is frightening and it is lucky that only a door was damaged as we could have potentially been dealing with serious injuries or even a number of fatalities.”
A 15-year-old boy from Merstham has been arrested in connection with this incident and remains in police custody at this time.
Officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team are conducting enquiries in the local area and will be stepping up patrols.
Anyone who has information which could assist officers with their investigation is urged to contact Surrey police on 101 quoting reference RB/13/6255 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
