Wednesday 7th August saw the inaugural Company Soft Ball Challenge played under sunny skies at Old Caterhamians' Sports Association in Park Avenue, Caterham - home to Caterham Cricket Club, Old Caterhamians' Rugby Club and Caterham Cougars Lacrosse Club. After a quick coaching session designed to help the participants to reconnect with their cricketing skills, a lively match ensued between The Fox public house from Coulsdon Common, and the Buxton Group in Caterham. The keenly fought contest ended with a win for the all round talents of the Buxton Group as their total of 264 – 4 provided too strong for the Fox, who finished their innings on 234 – 7. The match finished as the sun started to dip behind the trees at the far end of the ground, and the smell of Mervyn's barbecue was wafting across the ground. Colin Mico of Caterham Cricket Club said: "Congratulations to all who took part, and particularly to our winners, who have immediately requested a rematch! We are looking to run another challenge before the end of the season so please contact us if you would like to enter a team."
