Age UK Surrey is delighted to announce that Simon Wallis has recently joined the Charity as Advocacy Co-ordinator where, as part of his new job, he will be able to give help to those people who need a helping hand to resolve their issues in a safe and confidential environment. He will be supported by a dynamic team of volunteers, including lawyers, teachers and medical professionals. His role at Age UK Surrey will be diverse, covering important issues such as Wills, Power of Attorney, Welfare Benefits, Housing, and discriminatory issues. Sue Zirps, CEO of the charity said: "Finding your way around the system and even understanding official letters can be difficult for anyone. We are able to offer older people some extra help and are delighted to have such an experienced person at the helm. Simon's knowledge of financial matters will be particularly useful as many enquiries evolve." Simon's experience includes teaching English and Law at Guildford College and then heading up the Media Arts Department. Latterly, his experience has been with the Citizens Advice Bureau in London, where he specialises in Employment Law and Human Rights. An interesting feature of Simon's career was when he was seconded to Bermuda in 2008 on a Government initiative dealing with, and advising on, public awareness issues during a period of quite intense, political unease within the country itself.
