Consultation about a new system to secure funds from new development to help pay for local infrastructure projects, such as schools and community facilities is being carried out by Tandridge District Council. The Council has prepared its draft Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedule following consideration of comments made during a public consultation earlier this year. CIL is a standardised rate which will be applied to most new development. The charges are based on the size and type of development. The money raised will be used to fund infrastructure projects required to support the additional development. A proportion of the money will be shared with parish and village councils to spend on local infrastructure. In summary, Tandridge District's CIL will charge new residential development £120 per square metre and new supermarket development £100 per square metre. The Draft Charging Schedule and supporting evidence can be inspected at the Council Offices and local libraries during normal opening hours or on www.tandridge.gov.uk/CIL. The consultation runs for six weeks from Friday 23 August until Friday 4 October. The draft Charging Schedule will be submitted for examination by an independent inspector in early 2014 and should be adopted by April 2014. Chairman of the Planning Policy Committee, Councillor David Weightman, said: "Our research indicates Tandridge District communities will receive significantly more money towards the provision of local infrastructure by using the Community Infrastructure Levy instead of the current Section 106 system. This increase in the amount of money available will provide more funding towards much needed community facilities, such as schools, community services, sports and leisure facilities. The Council values residents' involvement to ensure rates are set at the right level." |
