August Bank Holiday Monday saw crowds pouring into the grounds of St. Peter and St. Paul's CofE School in Chaldon for the annual Chaldon Fête again this year. Many of the visitors had their four-legged friends with them. The dogs were all spruced up especially for the popular Fun Dog Show to enter classes such as the 'Dog most like its owner' and the 'Dog with the waggiest tail'. Apart from the dog show, other entertainments included a fabulous performance by local female singing group 'Charisma' and foot-tapping jazz by the Polygon Dixieland Jazz Band. The Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Beverley Connolly, opened the Fête supported by Sonia Hunt the Town Crier. The event, organised by the volunteers on the Chaldon Fête Committee, was well supported by local businesses with donations towards stalls and raffle prizes. This year saw the Great Chaldon Bake-Off proving to be a very popular new addition to the event with a great array of delicious cakes for the lucky judges to sample! Last year's event raised over £5,000 for local charities and it is anticipated that year's year's Fête will have been just as successful and the total raised will be published in the October edition of The Caterham and District Independent. |
