A Cocker Spaniel called Fergus, which was one of two dogs stolen by thieves from a boarding kennel in Edenbridge, Surrey has been reunited with his owners on Sunday afternoon (25th August) following an anonymous tip off. Fergus and Sophie, a black and partially tanned in colour Dachshund aged between 8-9 years of age, were stolen sometime overnight between 5.30pm on Sunday, 4th August and 8.30am on Monday, 5th August from the boarding kennels in Dwelly Lane. Police officers located Fergus at a private address in Godstone on Sunday, 25th August. Upon retrieval, he was taken to a vet by police officers and declared fit and healthy. The vet was able to confirm the dog's identity by his microchip. Sergeant Mike Simmonds, Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Fergus's owners are delighted to have him back home safe and sound after what has been a very worrying time. "I am thankful to the person who came forward with the information about Fergus and am very pleased that there has been a happy outcome in this case. "There has been a great deal of coverage about the missing dogs on social media – this no doubt assisted in us raising awareness of both Fergus and Sophie being stolen. Sadly, Sophie the Dachshund is still missing. I urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of her to police so that she can also be reunited with her distraught owner. "Both dogs have been microchipped and this instance highlights the importance of dog owners getting their pets microchipped so that they can be successfully identified." The police appeal was been backed by the writer and broadcaster Ben Fogle, a close family friend of Sophie's owner. Anyone who has seen Sophie or has any information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference TD/13/3683, or call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. |
