The Caterham Round Table are adding another event to their calendar - a hill climb for cyclists up Waller Lane in Caterham, the steep lane used by pedestrians that leads up to Caterham-on-the-Hill from Caterham Valley. From a standing start, cyclists will have to climb approximately 500m up a 1 in 12 incline. The 'Waller Pain' will be one of the new events for the Caterham Festival and will take place on Sunday 13th June.
Chairman of Caterham Round Table, Clive Harper, said: "We hope this inaugural event will be a great success and help to reflect what is great about Caterham. We are delighted to be involved in the Caterham Festival and hope this will be an annual fixture on the Round Table calendar."
Round Table member, Scott Georgiades added: "This will be an all out effort for cyclists, and all participants will receive a medal. Serious riders are being invited but I would like to stress that this event is open to any ability, any bike, any age. The cyclists must have a helmet and their bike will have to pass a safety check by Ross Cycles on the day prior to the race."
The organisers are keen to encourage lots of spectators to come and cheer on the brave cyclists as they make their way up the hill – a true test of strength and stamina!
To take part will cost £3 if you register before the event or £5 on the day. Pre-event registration details will be on the Round Table website soon at www.caterhamtable.com or you can e-mail Scott Georgiades for more information at This email address is being protected from spambots.
