Last week Caterham Harestone Rotary Ladies treasurer, Marion Harris, presented a cheque for £750 to Paul Gregory who works as a volunteer managing 'Men in Sheds' at The Douglas Brunton Centre in Caterham. The Presidents Lady Fiona Woodcock said: "This donation is from the proceeds of a Jazz Night held in April attended by 150 people foot-tapping the night away to Tony Pitt and the All Stars. We particularly wanted to support Men in Sheds as it really captured our imagination. With a number of men keen on woodcrafts in Rotary we know what a pleasure this project can give men of all abilities". Stella Banks who runs The Douglas Brunton Centre said: "Many thanks go to the Ladies Rotary Club from the Men in Sheds project for their very kind donation to be put to good use in the shed. It is often harder for older men to make new friends and this new project aims to help bring them together, so they can get out of the house, meet new people and do something different." The special wooden workshop has been built and kitted out specifically for men to meet in and use their existing DIY skills, learn new ones, share ideas and get together for a chat over lunch and a drink afterwards in the Centre. As well as men who would like to join the project, the Centre is looking for more volunteers to help who have an interest in or experience of DIY.
