In Hamsey Green, local residents are continuing to fight the attempt by Lidl to put a supermarket on the former Good Companions site. Next Thursday, 24th October at 7.30pm sees the long awaited Planning Committee meeting at Croydon Town Hall, Katherine Street, Croydon. Planners have revealed that their recommendation will be to grant permission. Objectors have the opportunity to voice their concerns in person and to convince the Committee to go against the proposal. Local resident, Paul Redington, said: "We are still very concerned about likely traffic problems and the hazard to the 2,000 local schoolchildren at Hamsey Green Juniors and Warlingham School. Since the original application local shops have continued to close due to the recession, with fears that a Lidl will make things worse, and even threaten the local Co-op which houses the Post Office. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to attending the meeting in a last ditch attempt to prevent the development."
