On Sunday 13th October, members of local sporting associations gathered at de Stafford Sports Centre in Burntwood Lane, Caterham for the Tandridge Sports Awards 2013. Amongst those presenting the awards was Mr Tim Connolly, husband of the Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Beverley Connolly. Sports Officer for Tandridge Trust, Nikki Ball, welcomed everyone to the event and screened a film showing youngsters enjoying sporting activities at the Surrey Youth Games before announcing the winners. During the afternoon the audience was entertained by a demonstration of fencing by young members of the Dream Fencing Club and ju jitsu by members of the Sakora Aikijutsu Club. This year's winners were: Sports Personality of the Year – Yosif Angelinov, owner of Dream Fencing Club. Sports Club of the Year – Warlingham Squash and Racket Club. Disability Sports Award – Sam Muncey from Whyteleafe. Volunteer of the Year – Tim Bellars from South Nutfield. Young Volunteer of the Year – Natalie Salter of Hurst Green. After receiving their trophy for Sports Club of the Year, Rod Gemmell, Chairman of Warlingham Squash and Racket Club said: "It is a bit overwhelming! It is lovely to know that people think we are a good club. A lot of people put a lot of hard work into the club so it is nice to get acknowledged. We will definitely put this award up in our reception area!"
