A community fundraising group celebrated its 35th year serving the Tandridge community by holding a dinner dance at the weekend. The Caterham Oxted & Godstone Lions (COGS) and their guests donned their smartest attire for the Charter Anniversary Dinner & Dance on Saturday 26th October at Nutfield Lodge, Nutfield. The event marked the day in which COGS was given its charter by Lions International in 1978 and the group started fundraising for worthy causes throughout the district and some internationally. President, Fran Pavely and her husband Lion Iain Pavely greeted their guests, before a three course meal of salmon starters and Mediterranean chicken main was served. Fran, of Bletchingley Road, Godstone made a toast and thanked her guests which included The Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Councillor Beverley Connolly and her husband Tim, for their support. Fran said: "Our club is a vibrant, happy and above all, sociable club and I am very proud and honoured to have been elected as Club President. All members of COGS and Lions Clubs everywhere enjoy being Lions and the bond, spirit and companionship that is shared. "The first rule of our club is to have fun. This year we welcomed some new members into the club who have already demonstrated their willingness to get involved in our many activities." It wasn't long before the crowd hit the dance floor and let their hair down to the tunes from The Snow Band. Lion Peter Drysdale of Oxted Road, Godstone spotted the band busking in Redhill some years ago and they have played for the club several times since. A raffle raised over £400 on the evening.
