On Wednesday 16th October the East Surrey Conservative Association Executive voted in favour of reselecting local MP Sam Gyimah as the Conservative candidate to contest the 2015 General Election. Following the reselection, Sam said: "It is an enormous privilege to stand again for this wonderful constituency. I'm looking forward to taking up the fight at the next election so that Conservatives can finish the job of getting our country back on track." This announcement follows on from his second promotion during this Parliament to the Government Whips' Office, a junior Ministerial position. As a Government Whip, Sam will be responsible for helping secure the passage of the Government's legislative programme through Parliament. Commenting on the appointment Sam said: "It was a huge honour to be asked by the Prime Minister to join his Government as a Whip." Whilst this new role involves a number of new responsibilities Sam says he will be maintaining local surgeries and will continue to champion constituency concerns such as safeguarding the environment, opportunities for young people and support for small businesses. |
