Crystal Palace goalie Julian Speroni swapped the football pitch for a sales pitch on Thursday 30th October, when he took to the tills at the Marie Curie Cancer Care shop in Church Walk, Caterham. Julian, a firm favourite with fans of the club, turned out to raise cash and commitment from customers during his visit, in particular getting local people interested in volunteering just a few hours of their time at the shop each week. Julian signed photos, shirts, calanders, books and footballs. He chatted to customers for over two hours and was a hit with children and adults alike. Julian said: "I was delighted to be invited to pop along and support my local Marie Curie shop in Caterham. The stock was amazing and they have some wonderful gifts for Christmas. I would urge everyone to sign up and become a volunteer if they are able to spare a few hours of their time. If you have any unwanted items please drop them off at the shop. It raises vital funds to support the wonderful work the Marie Curie nurses provide." As a premiership goalkeeper and the fact that it was half term, Julian attracted a huge crowd. Karen Green, volunteer press officer said: "We were thrilled to have Julian here. He was a huge draw and was very generous with his time and support. He's a fabulous ambassador for the club, and it's great that he was willing to represent the charity like this, and get people talking about our work." Marie Curie Cancer Care would like to thank Morrison's in Church Walk, Caterham who donated a bottle of wine and Floral Gallery in Caterham for provided a stunning bouquet which were both presented to Julian. |
