A murder investigation has been launched after a dead body was discovered in a well in Warlingham on Friday, 15 November. Police were called to the discovery outside an address in Audley Drive, Warlingham at around 13:50hrs after workmen came across the body. Specialist officers, including Metropolitan Police divers, are at the scene and are in the process of recovering the body from the well - this may take some time. At this stage detectives do not know any further details about the deceased and await the removal of the body from the well. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course. The investigation is being led by the Homicide and Major Crime Command, led by Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons. "This is an unusual case and I would appeal for anybody who has concerns about a missing person, or who believes they may know something about this individual or incident, to call my officers," he said. "Although I cannot elaborate further at this time, I have reason to believe that this body was placed into the well and we are treating the incident as a murder." Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 4961 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Last night officers arrested seven men on suspicion of murder. They all remain in custody at this time.
