Belly dancing, exotic cuisine and sumptuous decoration made for a successful Turkish Night in Godstone on Saturday 16th November. Lion Jan Key, of Caterham who often sets up lavishly decorated charity stalls selling unique charms and scarves, used her creativity and stock to transform White Hart Barn. Rich fabrics adorned the walls, and the stage was furnished with patterned rugs and low-lit lanterns. Lion Tony Skilbeck and his wife, Brenda, of Buxton Lane, Caterham, managed to acquire daily Turkish newspapers each day from their bus driver during a recent holiday touring the country which made for appropriate table props on the night. After a starter of olives and pitta with dips taramasalata, hummus and tzatziki, guests were served a dish of Turkish Moussaka- each one made by a different Lion or partner. Some cooks had improvised with the addition of potatoes when they ran out of aubergine, which proved a success and the meal was enjoyed by all. The event raised around £900. Money raised by COGs goes towards local causes and charities and causes internationally. Last week the club donated £500 towards the Philippines Typhoon Appeal.
