The Christmas lights in Caterham Valley and Whyteleafe are being switched on this weekend, with the lights in Church Walk, Caterham coming on later today, Friday 29th November and the lights in Croydon Road and Godstone Road in Caterham being switched on tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 30th November. The Christmas lights in Whyteleafe are being switched on on Sunday 1st December.
The Christmas lights in Church Walk will be switched on at 6pm this evening with entertainment taking place between 3pm and 7pm. Father Christmas and his helpers will be in attendance and there will be free face painting, community stalls and Christmas carols. The switching on ceremony will be preceded by the traditional Lantern Parade from the Asprey Fountain in The Square, leaving at 5.45pm. There will be free parking in Morrison's car park from 3pm.
Tomorrow, Caterham Valley Parish Council will be switching on the Christmas lights in Croydon Road and Godstone Road at 4.30pm outside Subway at 49 Croydon Road. From 3pm there will be face painting, music from Ridge Radio and Christmas carols. There will also be a shop window competition for children (entry forms can be picked up in Subway).
On Sunday 1st December, Whyteleafe Events are holding a family Christmas Extravaganza at the Whyteleafe Tavern in Whyteleafe to celebrate the switching on of the Christmas lights. The event starts with a Church service at St. Luke's Church at 4pm followed by a torchlight procession to the Whyteleafe Tavern at 5pm. The lights on the Whyteleafe Christmas tree will be switched on at 6pm. Father Christmas will be in his grotto and there will be carol singing, mulled wine and mince pies and an indoor Christmas Market in the Function Room at the Tavern.
