On Friday 8th November over 100 people packed the Caterham Community Centre in Caterham-on-the-Hill for a very special party. Sonia Hunt was celebrating ten years of being Caterham's official Town Crier along with her friends, family members and local dignatories. Award-winning Town Crier for Biddulph, John Robinson and his wife Sue, travelled nearly 200 miles down to Caterham to attend the party. Also in attendance was the Vice-Chairman for Surrey County Council, Sally Marks, the Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Beverley Connolly and Co-Chairman of West Ham FC and local resident David Gold and his fiancée Lesley Manning. Amongst those paying tribute to Sonia at the party was Cllr. Beverley Connolly who said: "Congratulations to Sonia for reaching this milestone of ten years of being Caterham's Town Crier. Sonia does a fantastic job and we are very lucky to have her in our town." After the party Sonia said: "I would like to say 'thank you' to everyone for coming to my party. It was a brilliant evening and I was overwhelmed. I am now looking forward to the next ten years of Town Crying! "I would like to say a special thank you to the two Andrews, Andy Parr and Andrew Browne, for all their work arranging the party and also to John Orrick for making my lovely cake. What a ding-dong it was!" A raffle held during the course of the evening raised £220 for the Bletchingley Skills Centre. |
